Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Red and blue food coloring (gel or liquid)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar for coating

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs until fully incorporated.
  2. Sift in the flour, baking powder, and salt; mix until you have a thick dough. Chill the dough for at least 1 hour.
  3. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  4. Divide the chilled dough into three portions. Color one portion red and another blue while leaving one plain.
  5. Take small amounts of each color and roll them into balls. Roll the balls in powdered sugar twice for an extra crinkly appearance.
  6. Bake for 12-14 minutes or until tops are crackly but centers remain soft. Cool on a wire rack.
