  • 2 cups bread flour
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp squid ink
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 4 oz button mushrooms
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup shallots (substituted with red onion)
  • 45 cloves garlic
  • 2 Tbsp cooking apple juice
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 cup jarred pesto sauce
  • 1 cup Green Pesto Gouda cheese

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine bread flour, garlic powder, salt, and yeast.
  2. Mix olive oil and squid ink into warm water; then add to dry ingredients and form a dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth; let rise in an oiled bowl covered with a damp cloth for about one hour.
  4. While the dough rises, slice button mushrooms into skull shapes and sauté shallots in butter until translucent; add garlic and mushrooms until tender.
  5. Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Roll out the risen dough into desired shapes and spread pesto on top.
  6. Add sautéed mushrooms and sprinkle with Green Pesto Gouda cheese before baking for about 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
