Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef sirloin (thinly sliced)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine (or dry sherry)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 medium yellow onions (sliced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1/4 cup beef broth or water
  • 1/2 tsp sugar

Instructions

  1. Combine sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, cornstarch, Shaoxing wine, and sesame oil in a bowl. Marinate for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a wok over medium-high heat. Add marinated beef in a single layer; sear for about 2 minutes per side until browned.
  3. Remove beef from the wok and set aside. In the same wok, add more oil if needed and stir-fry onions for 3–4 minutes until softened.
  4. Add garlic and ginger; cook until fragrant (30 seconds). Return beef to the wok with any juices, add broth and sugar; stir to combine.
  5. Cook for another minute until heated through and flavors meld together.
