  • 2 large yellow onions
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • smoked paprika
  • ground cumin
  • black pepper
  • salt

Instructions

  1. Trim excess fat from the brisket and rub with a spice mix (smoked paprika, cumin, black pepper, and salt).
  2. In a skillet, caramelize sliced onions over medium heat for 15–20 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 2–3 minutes.
  3. Layer caramelized onions in a slow cooker or Dutch oven; place the seasoned brisket on top.
  4. In a bowl, mix brown sugar, soy sauce, beef broth, and apple cider vinegar; pour over brisket.
  5. Cook on low for 8–10 hours (slow cooker) or cover and bake at 300°F (150°C) for 3–4 hours.
  6. Let the brisket rest for 20 minutes before shredding and serve.
